Description:
Responsible for processing the prescription thru dispensing software with accurate demographics and insurance information. Assists with authorization of prescriptions and buy & bill medications dispensed thru the clinic. Attaches labels to prescriptions, reviews prescriptions with PIC, and notifies navigator of prescription ready for pick up.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides customer service by explaining and clarifying prescriptions, as well as answering simple questions about goals of prescription use.
- Process prescriptions in dispensing software with accurate patient demographic and insurance information.
- Verifies information on prescription is complete and accurate.
- Assist with prior authorizations and cost exceeds maximum overrides for dispensed prescriptions.
- Assist with prior authorizations for buy and bill medications given in office.
- Notifies navigator of cost of paid claim. Navigator will assist patients with gaining grant coverage if needed and notify pharmacy technicians of grant coverage to place into dispensing software.
- Orders prescription after approval from navigator/patient by emailing central supply.
- Performs routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medications for patients, such as labeling bottles.
- Assists the PIC with verification tasks of correct prescription and check off in dispensing software.
- Assist with notifying central supply of delivery to satellite clinics and distribute medications to local providers for dispensing.
- Tracks dispensed medications on tracer paper with lot, expiration, and NDC numbers.
- Tracks received prescription signature on RX tracker form.
- Notifies providers of approval for buy and bill injections. Monitors for changes in coverage and updates clinical team accordingly to ensure no issues with unpaid claim.
- Loads cost of medications into dispensing software routinely.
- Consults with the PIC and/or director and refers questions regarding health matters to them or the navigator.
- Process refills as needed, requests refill renewal from provider as needed.
- Assist PIC and Director of Clinical Operations with needs in regards to credentialing for ACHC and other PBM contracts.
- Follows all AU policy and procedures for dispensing.
- Adheres to ACHC guidelines as mandated for sustained credentialing.

Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED. Graduate of ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Program, Associates Degree, or equivalent with one (1) year of pharmacy experience preferred. Excellent knowledge of drug names desired with the expectation of continuing education on new drugs Excellent verbal and written communication
